30 May Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Clay: Hello, my name is Clay Landrum with The Rowland Group and I’m a partner (and the president of Houston operations).
Desiree: Hi, my name is Desiree Macias and I’m a lead administrative assistant here at The Rowland Group.
Clay: Today we wanted to take the time to talk about Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace. Studies have shown that organizations with strong diversity and inclusion are much more profitable compared to those that do not have a strong diversity and inclusion program. Diversity expert Risha Grant has great way of explaining this, “Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.”
Clay: While it’s very important to hire a diverse workforce, it is equally important to make sure that you are listening to their ideas and input to become a more valuable organization. What are your thoughts on that Desiree?
Desiree: Well Clay, no one wants to feel like they are just a token. Everyone wants to feel valued for what they bring to the table. I know when I first started here at The Rowland Group I was at the front desk and because of my ability to learn I was promoted. I definitely feel that this happened because of what I brought to the team.
Clay: Yes. And I will definitely agree with that. Desiree is very valuable to our team. She is smart, organized, and she catches everything that we miss. Without her we would definitely be lost. With that said, our goal is to provide diversity to our clients. That way their organizations can get stronger through their teams, their workforce, and bring different perspectives to their group that they are not currently seeing.
